Richmond’s Lalor House could break suburb price record
Be afraid if you get a tap on the shoulder at this open for inspection, because if you turn around, it may not be the agent standing behind you.
Richmond’s iconic Lalor House, reportedly haunted by the ghosts of the family of Eureka Stockade leader and politician Peter Lalor, is seeking a buyer.
The historic mansion at 293 Church Street was built in the 1880s for Joseph Lalor, Peter Lalor’s doctor son.
The Lalor House is on the market for the first time in more than 50 years.
Mr Lalor died at his son’s home in Richmond in 1889, after the death of his wife and daughter.
The house soon gained a sinister reputation and people would avoid walking past it at night, says Drew Sinton of the Haunted Bookshop, citing The Ghost Guide To Australia by Richard Davis.
Lalor family ghosts were said to have been spotted on the balcony and in windows facing the street.
