IN HIGH SPIRITS Spook hunters capture eerie photo they insist shows ghost of monk who haunts a 17th

SPOOK hunters claim to have caught on camera a ghostly friar who haunts a 17th century pub.

Legend has it the Merry Monk in Bishop Auckland Co. Durham has played host to the ghoul for generations.

And now experts insist they’ve finally pictured him in the boozer’s cellar.

Elaine Kelly from Spectre Detectors, who led the investigation, said: “Almost as soon as we got in there a wooden cross was thrown from the mantelpiece across the room.

“We went into the cellar and there were also a lot of hot and cold spots – it is highly unusual to have hot spots in a stone room like that. I also felt a burning sensation on my face.”

One photo taken during the evening shows what they insist is the friar’s face staring out of the darkness.
