Are there ghosts at Bishop museum? Nighttime tour Nov. 19

When it comes to ghosts, Mindy Gill-Johnson describes herself as a skeptic.

“I don't say they don't exist but I haven't really seen anything to say they do exist either,” said the curator of collections at the Billy Bishop Home & Museum in Owen Sound.

But Gill-Johnson said her doubts were thrown into question when, while alone at the museum, she heard the unmistakable sound of footsteps coming from the second floor of the nationally historic building.

“It definitely was not a person. It was three in the morning and I was the only person there. If there was somebody else in the museum, I would have known.”

She said after hearing the footsteps, she decided it was time to head home.

Gill-Johnson's experience, which happened while she was putting the finishing touches on an exhibit a few years ago, is just one of the unexplained occurrences that has reportedly taken place in the 133-year-old, two-and-a-half-storey brick house at 948 3rd Ave. W.

On Nov. 19, museum staff will share some of those spooky and eerie stories while leading a nighttime tour of the old house. The Museum After Dark event is set to begin at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $20 per person and pre-registration is required. The money will be used to help the museum fund programs and exhibits.
