Is fire Chief Rock Taylor haunting the Daily Times office?

Still, people claim Rock Taylor has been seen and heard from time to time since his passing, although I don’t have information on how inebriated those eyewitnesses might have been.

A 2014 Salisbury Fire Department newsletter piece by Bryan Records provides the details of the story. Rock Taylor served from 1918 until 1967, and was fire chief from 1937-38. They called him Rock “because of the way he rocked side to side when he walked.”

Several of the older members, including Taylor, lived at the station, and that’s where Taylor died. His spirit supposedly kept pottering around in the years afterward, as evidenced by pool balls clacking or doors creaking when nobody was there to move them.

“Old Timers would simply say, ‘It’s just Rock’ and go on about their business,” Records wrote.
